Hello!

My name is Elle Friedberg (they/them) and I am a Baltimore-based objects conservator. This website highlights some of my recent projects. Currently, I contribute to the preservation and technical research of the collection at the Walters Art Museum. I am passionate about art conservation outreach and education. This year, I started the Queer Stories Preservation Project, a series of free workshops for the Baltimore LGBTQ community.

Art conservation is...

the care of art and cultural heritage objects and the physical environments they reside in. I care for artwork encompassing a variety of three-dimensional media including ceramics, metals, glass, wood, and stone.

On an average week, a museum art conservator wears many hats. We spend our time:

  • Repairing, cleaning, or stabilizing art objects.

  • Conducting research projects and sharing our findings with the conservation community and the broader public.

  • Collaborating with curators, art handlers, and exhibition museum staff to ensure the safe display of artwork in the galleries.
